Getting around the islands in Thailand is surprisingly easy. Travel agencies are everywhere, they offer joint tickets at very affordable prices, which makes exploring the islands and other domestic destinations a breeze.

We booked a joint ticket from Phi Phi Don Island to Koh Samui. Which involves taking a ferry from Phi Phi to Ao Nang, a short ride on an open air mini bus, then transferring to a double decker bus. About 2-3 hours later you arrive at Donsak pier and transfer to a second ferry bound for the gulf islands. As chaotic as some things in Thailand are, they are exceptionally efficient at moving farangs around and getting you to your destination.

Koh Samui is a more expensive island. Once here, getting around and negotiating with taxis and songthaews for a fair price can be a challenge. They have set rates, 400 baht was the typical cost for taking you from one town to another. To save money, once you’re settled in, skip the songthaews and rent a motorbike, it’s a great way to see the island.

Thanks for exploring Thailand’s islands with us!
