Marvellous Miami

Miami, Florida is a climatically warm and welcoming city – ideal for vacations, and if you are fortunate, longer stays.  The Miami area provides tourists and its residents with numerous interesting things to see and do. The visitor attractions, the Miami Seaquarium and the Miami Zoo (Zoo Miami), attract many thousands of visitors every year. Those who love to shop are well served by the Aventura Mall and the Bayside Marketplace.  There are also sunset cruises and sailing trips available; Miami is a tourist playground just waiting to be explored.

Thousands of individuals, couples and families, flock to Miami each year to spend some time relaxing, partying, shopping and dining.  Many vacationers head for the very popular South Beach area – it’s the place to see and be seen.  Hang out on the beach and enjoy the sunshine and some swimming, or relax beneath a shady palm tree and watch the world go by.

Zoo Miami is very impressive; having been started as a collection in the 1940s it is now the largest tropical zoo in the US.  It is to the southwest of Miami located on a former airfield.   The Seaquarium is also an outstanding place to spend a day; spring is a prime time to visit because many of the animals have had their young – kids love it!

Lying to the west of Miami are the famous Everglades; a unique ecological landscape that is the habitat of many rare and endangered species.  You won’t be able to see all of the 1.5 million acres of the Everglades but you’ll be fascinated by a small glimpse of this unique environment.

The dining and shopping are fantastic in Miami.  Be sure to visit the upscale Aventura Mall, with over 250 shops, restaurants and a movie theater, and the Bayside Marketplace, with local stores like Sharkey’s and Tradewinds. For something a little different, try the eccentric Coral Castle in nearby Homestead, or the Petit Douy French chateau, the only example of this style of architecture in Miami.  Don’t forget Little Havana, a place where you can experience Cuba’s rich culture without worrying about passports or ocean voyages.

Many individuals that visit Miami would love to stay forever, or at least for a longer period than a vacation. For younger people one way to do that is to attend one of the many excellent colleges in Miami.  The range of qualifications that can be studied for is very impressive.  As a college student you will have time during school breaks to explore the city and its attractions.  This pleasure is enhanced by the added bonus of many discounted student admissions.  Another huge advantage is that you can head to the beach to do your homework!

Miami is also the base of many professional sports teams.  The Florida Marlins baseball team plays at Miami’s Dolphin Stadium, and the Miami HEAT basketball team plays in a downtown arena.  Catch a Miami Dolphins football game at Dolphin Stadium or watch Miami FC Soccer at Tropical Park Stadium.  If you need to cool off, there’s ice hockey available just north of Miami, in the bedroom community of Sunrise.

Of course, Miami excels at anything sporting that is water-related. If you enjoy swimming, snorkeling, water parks, fishing, or enjoying the water in a boat or on water skis, Miami is the place to be!

Miami is a true melting pot of cultures; it has a rich mix of people, languages, food, dance and history.  The city nightlife is famous the world over, and college students frequent the many jazz clubs, bars, and cabaret venues that line the streets.  For excitement, adventure and enjoyment like no other place in the world, Miami is the place to take a vacation or to enjoy a great lifestyle while you study.
