Preschooler Naming World’s Capitals

Here’s a future traveller that will know where he is going! Watch this little preschooler being quizzed by (I assume) his father on the capitals of the fifty states of the United States of America, and the capitals of the countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and the other Americas. It’s extraordinarily cute and he’s phenomenally smart. You’ll love it. He not perfect, but he comes pretty close. But it doesn’t matter. Once you watch it, you’ll see why I decided to include it. So, worry you don’t get a real travel video today, but I thought you’d enjoy this.

Beautiful Cinque Terra of the Italian Coast

Ciinque Terra!  I’ll be there in May--can’t wait! Cinque Terra is a necklace of five small villages in the province of La Spezia, clinging to the coast of Liguria, Italy in the middle of a National Park and Marine Preserve.  In the last few decades it has been “discovered” and become a popular travel destination. A local train line from La Spezia to Genoa connects all five villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. There is also a passenger ferry and a well-taken care of trail connecting the towns.

Greece Slideshow

This is a fun slide show of a couple’s trip to Greece that I just love.  The photo are great—nicely shot—clear, colorful and showing many of the great sights of Greece.  But, there’s something charming about watching this couple’s image of themselves pasted into most of the scenic shots, as if they were really sitting there in front of the Temple of Zeus and the Palamidi Fortress in the exact same pose. It’s just makes me chuckle.  With traditional Greek music playing in the background, it’s a fun watch.

Guide to Copenhagen

The beautiful Mathilde Moyell Juul hosts a great travel guide to Copenhagen, Denmark.  She takes you where, as she says, the people of Copenhagen go.  Beautifully shot and expertly narrated, this film has the quality of a commercial travel video, but unlike commercial teaser videos for full-length versions for sale, there is nothing she is trying to sell you at the end of the video.  Enjoy the tour, and enjoy Mathilde. I know I did.

Warning: Don’t Windsurf by a Glacier

Ever think about Windsurfing in front of a glacier?  Me either.  But it’s interesting (and unnerving) to watch Extreme Windsurfer Thomas Miklautsch surfing in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier southwest of the Santa Cruz province of Argentina.  It’s not just the cold water that makes this video extreme, it’s the danger involved in being next to the glacier while it is in the surprise process of caving.  Perito Moreno is one of 48 glaciers (a 250 km² ice formation) fed by the Ande’s Patagonian Ice Field shared by Chile, and is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia. Interestingly, this icefield is the world’s third largest reserve of fresh water.
