Tim’s 3-Day Utah Hike

A hiker named Tim chronicles his three-day exploration of Utah’s National Parks. He begins by hiking the beautiful, red rock Zion National Park, moves on to equally beautiful Bryce Canyon National Canyon and ends at the Grand Escalante National Monument. I’ve been to Zion and Bryce myself and I can attest to their rare beauty. Some call Sedona Arizona “Red Rock;” but not compared with these areas in Utah. The three days are shot in two videos, both embedded here. Enjoy the hikes!

Stonehenge Solstice Celebrations

You’ve undoubtedly seen videos and photos of the famous Stonhenge Monument of England. But have you ever witnessed the Solstice celebrations? Thousands of people gather there for the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice to celebrate (party) the occasions. “Interesting” people, diverse musical instruments and dancing abound. Some are serious about the spirituality and mystery of this scared place, while some are her to just have a good time. I read that it’s about “95% Pagan and 95% partygoers.” This video covers celebrations form 2002 - 2005. Links to some great pics in the article.

Iguazu Falls, A Wonder of Nature

The Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina are taller than and twice as wide as the more famous Niagara Falls.  A popular destination spot, it has over 275 cascades which can flow at a rate of up to 12,500 cubic meters per second during the rainy season. There is so much water pouring down the waterfalls, and the tropical setting is so strikingly beautiful, that it promoted a visiting Eleanor Roosevelt to say “Poor Niagara.”

Come to Moscow State University!

With all the choices one has for higher education, don’t rule out Lomonosov Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia. Among the benefits are no minimum drinking age, refreshing snow most of the year, a low age of consent of 16, and Russian Vodka!  As the filmmaker says, “change your life, come to Moscow State!” Obviously filmed tongue-in-cheek, this is a comedic film--good for a Friday article.

Around the World in 88 Webcams

A departure from our normal single destination video, today’s feature takes you around the world in a very interesting way—by showing you shots from 88 webcams, all shot around noon time (in their time zone) of the same day near the autumnal equinox with good weather! What’s really cool about the video, though, is that the filmmaker made an effort to avoid the most well-known cities. Includes great music by Andrew Powell and The Philharmonic Orchestra. Don’t skip this one!

Malaysian Snake Chamer

If you go to Malaysia you might get the chance to watch a snake charmer in action.  But absent that, you can watch it from the comfort (and safety!) of your home.  In this short video you’ll watch a Malay snake charmer work with a huge King Cobra.  The King Cobra is the longest of the venomous land snakes, growing up to 5.7 meters in length. Their venom is often fatal to humans’ untreated the mortality rate is 75%.  The King Cobra can stand eye-to-eye with a human as it can lift about a third of its body off the ground when it feels threatened. A terrifying thought.

River Cruise on the Seine in Paris

Join Gary and his wife Fen on a cruise down the famous Seine River in Paris, France. His wife had only seen Australia, where they live, until he had an opportunity to travel on business to Paris and brought along his wife. In this nine minute video, you’ll witness many of the 35 wonderful bridges which span the river, some of them several centuries old. The 776 km long river originates in Burgandy and empties into the English Channel. At Paris, the river is only 24m above sea level, making it slow flowing and thus easily navigable.

The Panama Canal in 1 minute 52 Seconds

The Panama Canal is a 51 miles (82km) long, and connects the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea to the Atlantic, though the Isthmus of Panama. Generally it takes 15-20 hours to get through, but with the miracle of time lapse photography, you can take the ride in one minute and 52 seconds on a cruise ship! The French started building it in 1881, but gave up in 1889. After Panama declared its independence in 1903, the Americans took over and finished the project. In 1977 President Jummy Carter signed away U.S. rights to it.

Driving in India

This is an amazing video of the driving situation in India. It seems so chaotic to me, but they seem to know what they are doing! Now, I’ve never been to India, so I have no idea how prevalent this is. However, I’ve seen other film and it looks pretty accurate. In particular, watch how close the vehicles get to the pedestrians and near the end, watch the top center for the white car driving the wrong direction.
