Iguazu Falls, A Wonder of Nature
The Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina are taller than and twice as wide as the more famous Niagara Falls. A popular destination spot, it has over 275 cascades which can flow at a rate of up to 12,500 cubic meters per second during the rainy season. There is so much water pouring down the waterfalls, and the tropical setting is so strikingly beautiful, that it promoted a visiting Eleanor Roosevelt to say “Poor Niagara.”
Most of the falls are in the Argentine territory, but in the middle is the main event, a huge horseshow shaped cliff called The Garganta del Diablo or Devil’s Throat, which produces the most impressive of the falls. This area also marks the border between Argentina and Brazil.
