Stonehenge Solstice Celebrations
You’ve undoubtedly seen videos and photos of the famous Stonhenge of England. But have you ever witnessed the Solstice celebrations? Thousands of people gather there for the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice to celebrate (party) the occasions. “Interesting” people, diverse musical instruments and dancing abound. Some are serious about the spirituality and mystery of this scared place, while some are her to just have a good time. I read that it’s about “95% Pagan and 95% partygoers.” This video covers celebrations form 2002 - 2005. Links to some great pics in the article.

The videoographers have a web site devoted to Stonehenge, which has more videos, plus photo galleries from Stonehenge. There are Photos & Video from the Last Free Festival Year (1984) Plus Photo Galleries & Videos from 2001 onwards when they regained access. There are also details for forthcoming ‘Open Accesses’ at Stonehenge & information on the ‘Stonehenge Round Table’. And what would they be without a Stonehenge MySpace Page.
Also, another site new-age.co.uk has some great photos of the Stonehenge Soltice celebration.

Here is what The Encyclopedia Britannica says about Stonehenge:
Monumental circular arrangement of standing stones built in prehistoric times and located near Salisbury, Wiltshire, Eng. The stones are believed to have been put in place in three main phases c. 3100–c. 1550 BC. The reasons for the building of Stonehenge are unknown, but it is believed to have been a place of worship and ritual. Many theories have been advanced as to its specific purpose (e.g., for the prediction of eclipses), but none has been proved. Stones erected during the second phase of construction (c. 2100 BC) were aligned with the sunrise at the summer solstice, suggesting some ritual connection with that event.
